Mackay is truly blessed for us Offshore fishing charters with numerous islands and reefs to the south, east and Whitsunday islands to the north, the options are endless.  Mako can also do day fishing and cruising trips to nearby islands throughout the southern Whitsundays, and south to the Percy’s as well.

Keswick Island and St Bee’s are the closest main group of island to the North East approximately 15 Nautical miles away which offers access to the smaller trailer boats.  Other islands just a bit further include Brampton Island, Wigton, Calder, Scawfell and Derwent just to name a few.

Mako is the way to go for comfort, awesome sea keeping ability and style.   Some great fishing can be had working the reef and points, with the prized coral trout a common catch.  Spanish Mackerel are also available and well worth having out a livebait under a balloon, or trolling deep points and rocks.  Lures and rigged baits are the go here.

Further afield is the Great Barrier Reef with countless fishing destinations and choices.  This is where Mako is ideal for cruising these remote reefs, with huge fuel capacity to reach Bugatti Reefs, Kindemar and heaps more from 100 Kilometres, and continuing to the other reefs up to 150 kilometres offshore.

Mako cruises at 18 knots which covers these large distance quickly and comfortably.  Prized reef species which are likely to be caught include Coral Trout, Red Emperor, Redthroat Emperor, Nannygai and heaps more.

If  you are lucky enough even Barramundi Cod and Maori Wrasse are caught on occasions, although now protected and release only.  These fish are still great fish to catch and see, and worth taking a photo, even better to release.

Our annual run of Spanish Mackerel is from June to October, with quality and numbers of Spanish mackerel improving, with Monsters over 30kg regularly caught.  A combination of Skipping Gar or wolf herring,  and lures are your best bet trolled about 6 knots.
