With the ever rising costs of boat ownership, fuel, moorings and maintenance, Charter boat fishing is the affordable alternative.
With a fishing charter shared between a group of friends, the cost is quite reasonable without the headaches, sit back, relax and enjoy the trip, let the crew do all the work. Most cases the food is cooked for you, the boat is stocked, fishing gear is supplied, and even the fish filleted for you, it really is too easy.
Plus at the end of your Mackay Fishing Charter, just pack your gear up and head home, no boat to clean.
Mackay is located in the middle of the Queensland coast, approximately 1000 kilometres north of Brisbane, and also smack bang in the middle of the Great Barrier Reef, and just at the beginning of the Southern Whitsunday Islands. Mackay is an easy hour and a half flight from Brisbane and easily accessible.
We are definitely spoilt for great fishing and boating and arguably offer some of the best fishing available on the East Coast of Australia. Fishing Mackay is definitely something to put on your must do list, and one of our extended live aboard charters to the Outer Great Barrier Reef.
Mackay also has great fishing and climate all year round and catering to all fishing styles. Centurion fishing charter offers a 80 foot vessel with all the comforts of home and more, with three 14 foot fishing dories. Centurion is ideal for extended fishing charters for living aboard form three to seven days or even more if need be.
Why Centurion Fishing Charter
The Centurion fishing charter boat is surveyed for up to 16 people with 12 an ideal group size. Accommodation is big and roomy with Air conditioned cabins and full size shower and toilet facilities. Don’t forget full walk around sides and a great fishing deck at the stern of the vessel at water level, a great place to get amongst the action.
For a real fishing adventure nothing beats a few days out fishing and cruising on the Great Barrier Reef. Mackay fishing charters offer a great range of charter boats, but Centurion is a great way to go for a personalized fishing experience with your mates or family.
These extended charters have the time and the range to go to the remotest areas of the Great Barrier Reef some 200 kilometres offshore and rarely fished areas, even uncharted.
A Mackay fishing charter on-board Centurion, can range from Reef fishing for Coral trout, Red Emperor, Red throat Emperor and heaps more great table fish. Game fishing and trolling lures for Spanish Mackerel along the reef edges. Also worth throwing in some poppers for Giant Trevally, an amazing monster of a fish which takes some stopping and famous worldwide for it’s spectacular surface strikes, once Hooked Hang On!!
All this great fishing is within an easy cruise from Mackay Marina. Feel free to contact any of the local tackle shops, Barra Pro, Fishing World & Northside tackle for great friendly service and the latest local fishing info and info on the regions charter operators.
Mackay is truly blessed for us Offshore fishing charters with numerous islands and reefs to the south, east and Whitsunday islands to the north, the options are endless, not to mention the Hundreds of reefs as well. Some great fishing can be had working the reef and points, with the prized coral trout a common catch.
Spanish Mackerel are also available and well worth having out a livebait under a balloon, or trolling deep points and rocks. Lures and rigged baits are the go here.
Further afield is the Great Barrier Reef with countless fishing destinations and choices. This is where Centurion is ideal for cruising these remote reefs, with huge fuel capacity to reach Bugatti Reefs, Kindemar and heaps more from 100 Kilometres, and continuing to the other reefs up to 200 kilometres offshore.
Centurion is the way to go for comfort and size, with boats size really does matter. This is where on a long trip, the space and good accommodation, makes the trip more enjoyable over a longer charter. Centurion cruises at 8 knots which covers these large distance comfortably, cruising throughout the night, waking up at the prized fishing locations.
Prized reef species which are likely to be caught include Coral Trout, Red Emperor, Redthroat Emperor, Nannygai and heaps more. If lucky enough even Barramundi Cod and Maori Wrasse are caught on occasions, although now protected and release only. These fish are still great fish to catch and see, and worth taking a photo, even better to release.
Our annual run of Spanish Mackerel is from June to October, with quality and numbers of Spanish mackerel improving, with Monsters over 30kg regularly caught. A combination of Skipping Gar or wolf herring, and lures are your best bet trolled about 6 knots.
Definitely a great place to go on your next fishing holiday and charter with an endless amount of fishing spots and great fishing destinations, also with a huge variety of fish species to match. Mackay fishing charters will look after you and be able to tailor a charter to suit your needs. Take the stress out of your next fishing trip and enjoy what the Mackay region has to offer.
