This was more fun than top shelf scotch in first class with a bevy of cheerleaders, but we still didn’t have any reds. Greg furrowed his brow and ran his finger over the GPS and pointed to one particular mark. He reckoned it was the one, so off we headed! What followed was mayhem, pure […]
Mackay Fishing Charters
Big nannygai and spangled emperor were coming up one after another and the swell was dropping out to nothing at all. It was amazing and by just after lunchtime we’d well and truly sated our need for fish to take home.
Greg made the call we’d always talked about.
We arrived at – I’m sworn to secrecy – reef after sunset and as we all hit the sack we were pretty excited for what the following day would bring. We were not to be disappointed. Greg has a series of marks gained from years of experience, the generous contributions of the crew, and some from a database of net hang-ups kept by trawler operators, so we had no shortage of ground to explore.
Greg regularly organizes such trips to the outer reef and to the Hardline, to cater for the fisherman who wants to experience fishing like no other. On previous trips we have headed out to the Hardline and beyond to chase this fishing Mecca, but on this occasion we would be steaming out investigate such reefs as Trogibee, Eaton, Denton and the reef area locally known as the Rats Tails which lay about 160km east of Mackay.
Fourteen anglers have just returned from an awesome fishing adventure as Reefari Fishing Charters paired their 33ft Cougar Cat with the 80ft Centurion mothership to spend 5 days and nights fishing some remote reefs up to 200 km’s out of Mackay.
After steaming 12 hours through the night the group woke up to day 1 with the daylight breaking over the remote Trogabee reef and one real big problem…
These Mothershipping trips range to the outer edge of the Great Barrier Reef with countless fishing destinations and choices and even out to the edge of the continental shelf. This is where Centurion is ideal for cruising these remote reefs, with huge fuel capacity to reach Bugatti Reefs, Kindemar and heaps more from 200 Kilometres,.
